Augusta's Matt Miller, who scored more than 3,000 points playing for the Greater Augusta Independent School Eagles (which I coached) in high school, is lighting up the scoreboard during his senior season at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The most recent scorcher was Saturday's 29 point outing in which Miller made 11 of 17 field goals, including 4 of 7 from deep. As you can see from these highlights, he scored in every imaginable way:
At the top of this post is a 15 minute long phone interview between Miller and me recorded Sunday night. We still talk and text a good bit, but it had been a little while since we had talked on the phone for that long, so I enjoyed hearing him describe his senior season and talk a little bit about his past and future, at least pertaining to basketball.
For background, here is the link to the season preview Matt's brother Glen put together for AugBball last month.
And here is a short list of the impressive accomplishments Matt has logged already during this his senior season:
- 20 points per game; 5 rebounds per game; 85% free throw shooting
- Passed 1,000 career points for his college career
- Mentioned in the "Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll" after scoring 33 points in the second game of the season.
And here is a link to the report of his game winner against rival Coast Guard during his sophomore season, which we talked about in the interview.
Matt plays Monday at 5:00 P.M. at this link. Watch him! I will.
