Eboni Fields scored 21 points, and four of her teammates also scored in double figures as the Georgia Soul ran over the Capital City Cougars in the Soul's Women's Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) season opener Sunday at Laney High.
Capital City made a mini run, cutting the deficit to 18 points midway through the third quarter. But the Soul's Monique Martin scored 11 of her 14 points during a 5 minute stretch that ended a minute into the fourth quarter with the Soul leading 72-47. The Soul coasted from there as Ciara Lyons, who scored 10 points, converted multiple times in the open court.
The Soul travels to meet the Conyers Rockets next Saturday before returning home to face the Beaufort Bisons Saturday, May 20, at Laney. The Soul players and coaches are attempting to build on last season's 11-4 overall record, which included a WBCBL Carolinas region championship and a trip to the national tournament in San Antonio.
