Davin Driskell and Sean Edewor - Greenbrier |
Davin Driskell scored 15 points and Cyrus Wilder added 12 to lead Greenbrier to a 58-49 win at home over Clarke Central Wednesday. The win was Greenbrier's fifth straight, putting the Wolfpack (6-5) above .500 for the first time this season. More importantly, second year coach Dee Howard's squad improved to 3-1 in class 5A, region 8 action ahead of a busy weekend that will begin Friday with a game on the road against league leader Walnut Grove (5-0).

Wilder played a central role in expanding Greenbrier's 29-17 halftime leading when the senior guard scored or assisted on the first 11 points of the third quarter. Wilder scored 7 of his 12 points during this stretch, and when his touch pass found Khaleel Pratt (9 points) for a striding layup with 4:33 left in the quarter, the Wolfpack took a 40-24 lead that would not be seriously threatened again.
The run was the second major spurt of the game for the home team. Late in the first quarter, Sean Edewor sparked an 11-0 Wolfpack sprint that began when Edewor beautifully led Justice Lawson with a full court chest pass that Lawson reeled in and finished to cut Clarke Central's early lead to 10-8. Immediately afterwards, Edewor retrieved the ball on the defensive end and trotted down court while the clocked ticked near zero. Howard implored Edewor to hurry before the quarter ended, and his senior sharp shooter obliged by sinking a 28 footer to give Greenbrier its first lead, which expanded to 17-10 soon after the second quarter began. The Wolfpack wouldn't trail again.
