Lady Warriors start season with a bang in the AugBball Game of the Night

Destiny Marshall led all scorers with 20 points in Tuesday's win.

Even though College of Charleston signee Destiny Marshall struggled to stay on the court because of constant foul trouble, she scored 20 points and three more Lady Warriors reached double figures as Grovetown used teamwork and intelligent play to rout Richmond 70-39 in both teams' season opener Tuesday.

The first half of the AugBball Game of the Night double-header saw two division I signees, Marshall and Richmond's Jasmine Robinson (Troy) square off. But it was the team play of Grovetown that defined the home team's success as Ayana Collins (16 points), Elizabeth Metress (11 points including 3 threes), and newcomer Savannah Gilen (10 points) not only complimented Marshall nicely, but ran the show while the team's leading scorer sat for long stretches of time.

In the video above, I talked to Metress, Marshall, and Collins after the game about how much different this season opener was compared to last year's, when the three team leaders had at that time never played a possession of basketball together. You can tell the teammates are enjoying each other both by the way they play and by the way they talk.

Robinson led Richmond with 18 points. Grovetown will hit the road the road to play Tattnall County and Effingham County this weekend.
