Friday's AugBball Game of the Day is Augusta University's first official game of the season, a neutral court matchup with nemesis Mount Olive. The Jags take momentum into the opener after nearly upsetting Wichita State on the road in an exhibition game last Saturday. Senior Keshun Sherrill, Augusta's returning All-American, scored 33 points in the game, gathering praise from everyone, as you can see in this video, which includes footage from the broadcast on ESPN3:
Mount Olive, a season opening opponent which is all too familiar to the Jags, needs no scouting report to know where to focus their attention on defense in Friday's AugBball Game of the Day at Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina. The Trojans not only ended Augusta's 2014-15 season with an 87-86 first round NCAA tournament win. They also topped the Jaguars 87-83 on Augusta's home floor last November.
In that most recent meeting, Augusta's leading returning scorer Sherrill scored 34 points on 12-18 shooting. Tyvez Monroe, then a freshman, scored 13 points off the bench in only 15 minutes. Jags fans just got a glimpse of what Sherrill and Monroe are capable of doing, having just finished cheering the duo as they combined to score 49 points in a near upset of Division I power Wichita State Saturday in a nationally broadcast game on ESPN3. Friday's 5:30 P.M. game, the first official contest of the season for both teams, will be streamed online. And I will be there to provide live highlights and updates from AugBball's Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.
I have written and said repeatedly that I will see as many of the senior returning All-American Sherrill's games as I can this season. And I suggest you do the same, starting Friday with the live stream of the opener. Fans who packed restaurants for live "watch parties" of Saturday's Wichita State game were certainly thrilled. The AugBball game report from that special day immediately became the most read and watched post in AugBball's six year history. In less than 24 hours.
After Saturday's game, coach Dip Metress gave credit for Keshun's development to his high school (West Rowan, NC) coach Mike Gurley, who I interviewed in the video above, which shows clips of Sherrill from ESPN3's broadcast, footage of Metress in the post game press conference, and audio from Gurley, who talked about Sherrill and Metress.
