Josey's Lady Eagles top Washington County in wild finish

In the video above, Will Avery and I discuss Saturday's finish, one of the season's best!

Josey finished Saturday's home region game against Washington County with a 9-1 run during the last 51 seconds and the Lady Eagles earned a 56-52 win and improved their record to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in region action. The Lady Eagles were able to string together what were essentially 5 point and 4 point possessions on the last two trips to their side of the court.

Breanna Wilson, who led Josey with 17 points, made a left handed layup and was fouled with 51 seconds remaining, cutting the Golden Hawks' lead to 1 at 51-50. After Wilson made the free throw, Janiah Williams immediately stole the ball and scored to give Josey a 52-51 lead. After a Washington County free throw, Wilson finished another opportunity at the rim, and Brianna Dubose (who had scored 6 straight points earlier in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 41) stole the inbound pass, was fouled, and calmly swished two free throws to seal the game.

The last minute run was preceded by an 8-0 spurt by Washington County that started at the 3:50 mark and lasted until Nia Johnson's free throws gave the Golden Hawks what appeared to be a commanding 51-47 lead with less than a minute remaining. Johnson led all scorers with 25 points.

Josey has now won as many games this year as all last season. The Lady Eagles posted an 11-17 record in the 2014-2015 campaign. The Golden Hawks record now stands at 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the 3A region.
