Sophomore Jashawn Brooks scored 26 points and Keshun Sherrill added 24 as Augusta University quickly handled Vorhees in front of more than 2,000 fifth graders on their Richmond County Board of Education field trip Thursday morning. Education Day Preview
Augusta University rides a three game win streak into Thursday's 11:00 A.M. Education Day home game against Vorhees. Preseason All Peach Belt first teamer Keshun Sherrill has scored 29 points in each of the past two games. For the season the player I call Superman is scoring 24 points per game while shooting 49% from the field, 44% from the three point line and 92% from the free throw line.
I try not to take for granted Sherrill's play, especially because this is his final season. Watching him can spoil a fan. He routinely makes so many special plays that many good or great players never make once in an entire career. In addition to the game winners and the career and season highs, which I'll get to later, he does the kind of thing he did in Sunday's 70-59 win at Bowie State: With 3.9 seconds remaining in the half, Sherrill inbounded the ball 94 feet from his basket to Deane Williams near half court and sprinted towards Williams to receive the shovel pass back. Of course, he swished a half-court runner to give the Jaguars a 48-38 halftime lead. Then he ran into the locker room without breaking a stride...
Like I said, Keshun makes these once in a career type plays regularly. The last time I remember him sinking one right before the halftime buzzer and galloping to the locker room for a break was this time during his sophomore season:
Thursday's Education Day showdown is right in Sherrill's sweet spot.
Sherrill's career high of 43 points against Coastal Georgia came in this same event last season. When 2,500 fifth graders on a Richmond County Board of Education field trip screamed for defense, Keshun and then senior Trevor Foreman gave them that and more!
