Richmond cruises to 3-0 start and adds Stevens before Saturday’s showdown with undefeated Lakeside

Richmond senior DT Stevens

Coach Steve Nobles’s Musketeers topped Harlem 73-30 Saturday at Paine College and have started the season with 3 wins ahead of tonight’s showdown with Lakeside, which is also 3-0. Richmond can thank underclassmen like Isaiah Williams, Cobi Wood, and Vontrez Roberts for the fast start.

But Friday’s leading scorer, Senior DT Stevens, who played for the first time this year after finishing a standout season on the football field, looked to me like he was getting back into basketball shape just in time for tonight’s intriguing matchup. DT was an all region performer on last year’s regular season championship squad.

Stevens scored 15 points and his contributions will be important against Lakeside, which is averaging just under 90 points per game behind the sizzling scoring punch of Kalen Williams (junior) and Tyshun Briscoe (sophomore). Williams scored 74 points in a pair of wins last weekend.

Saturday’s 8:00 matchup between two undefeated teams may be the most exciting matchup we see this weekend at Paine. Or anywhere so far in this young season.
