Evans gets in the win column with a victory over Josey at Paine

Size matters, and that simple point was proven Friday at Paine College in the first games of the Thanksgiving Classic. Earlier I documented the impact 6’8” Timmy Sellers had in Glenn Hills’ win over Greenbrier. Dylan Cardwell, Evans High’s 6’9” sophomore center, had a similar impact on his team’s 50-48 win over Josey.

Trailing 45-44 with less than 2 minutes remaining, Cardwell grabbed 2 defensive rebounds and made 2 impressive outlet passes that led to 2 uncontested layups by fellow sophomore Christian Chambers to give the Knights a 48-45 cushion that eventually led to their first win of the season.

Chambers led the Knights (1-2) with 17 points and junior Cameron Cabarrus added 13. Ricardez Williams scored 19 points to lead the Eagles (0-3).

Evans will face Statesboro Saturday at Paine at noon, and Josey will meet Harlem at 3:30.
