Girls Game Preview - A Battle between Defending State Champs
The defending 2A state champion and #1 ranked Laney Lady Wildcats (6-0) will invade the home gym of Mays (2-2), the 6A state champ of last season. This season’s game is a tie breaker after the powerhouse teams split the first two in the now three year series. Laney paid back Mays for a 2015 defeat last season with an 85-66 home Lady Wildcat win.
Alabama signee De'Sha Benjamin, Jaiden Hamilton, and Jhessyka Williams have formed an updated version of late 1980’s Georgia Tech basketball’s “Lethal Weapon 3,” combining to score more than 60 points per game while the Wildcats tally more than 88 as a team.
Laney’s boys (5-2, 1-1) might be smarting after Tuesday’s heartbreaking road loss against #1 Glenn Hills. But after a road game against region rival Butler tonight, and after a trip to Atlanta Saturday, the Wildcats will have shifted their focus to their third stiff test in five days. The terrific senior guard trio of Donald Henley, D'Juan Griffin, and PJ Walker will lead the Wildcats in this exciting non-region duel.
