North Augusta tops Lakeside on the road to complete grueling stretch

North Augusta topped Lakeside 54-51 Saturday to win its third game out of four during a grueling five day stretch in which the Yellow Jackets played on the road three consecutive days against solid non region foes: AC Flora Thursday, Burke County Friday, and Lakeside Saturday.

"I told the guys in the locker room that we came in on fumes, but we found a way to pull it out in the end," head coach Tony Harrell said in our post game interview. "So I'm proud of them."

Three Yellow Jackets scored in double figures (Bryson Mozone 12, Tez Collins 11, and RJ Felton 10) while Lakeside, which played Saturday’s game right after an emotional win at home Friday over region rival Greenbrier, was led by juniors Kalen Williams (19 points) and Tucker Gilbert (12).

Lakeside took a 31-30 halftime lead after battling all the way back from a 21-10 second quarter deficit. After the teams traded leads throughout the fourth quarter, North Augusta led for most of the fourth, but never by more than 5 points. Trailing by 3 in the final minute, Lakeside had multiple chances to send the game into overtime but missed on each three point attempt.

After the game, coach Harrell talked about what his team did, specifically Collins and Felton, to attack Lakeside's zone defense in the second half.
