Saturday’s non-region showdown in Waynesboro began with 2 of the top girls teams in the area as the 3-0 Lady Bears hosted the 5-0 Lady Eagles of Josey. Burke County’s De’ja Hamilton and Kianni Westbrook did not play due to an incident that occurred during the Lady Bears' 51-36 win over Midland Valley Friday night. It showed as Josey took advantage early and got out to a 6-0 lead before a Lady Bears' time-out.

Josey’s twin tandem of Tykedra and Rhykeria Rolland propelled the Lady Eagles to a 24-10 lead after a quarter of action, scoring 9 and 7 points respectively in the opening period. In the second, Burke County’s Trinity Wright responded by orchestrating the Lady Bears offense. She had 4 assists in the quarter alone, including 3 beautiful entry passes. Wright sparked an 8-2 run for the Lady Bears entering halftime, but the Lady Eagles still held a 34-20 lead at the break.

The second half was much of the same, as Tykedra Rolland pumped in 15 points the next two periods. Rolland led all scorers with 24 points, including 3 three pointers and 7-8 shooting from the foul line. Her sister Rhykeria finished with 15 points, and senior Rondaijah Wynn scored 11.

Burke County's Quaneshia Hamilton led the Lady Bears with 16, and 6’1 sophomore Tyasia Freeman added 12.

The Lady Eagles (6-0) host Cross Creek (2-1) Tuesday, December 5th, at 5:00.

The Lady Bears (3-1) host Evans (4-0) Tuesday at 5:00.
